About Maren
For nine years I have dedicated myself to helping over 290 students discover the elegance and power of chemistry. My academic background includes a doctoral degree in organic chemistry and postdoctoral research in medicinal chemistry which gave me firsthand experience of how chemical knowledge translates into life-saving applications. I have taught in university laboratories high school classrooms and private tutoring settings giving me a versatile understanding of how students at different levels engage with the subject. Many of my former students now work in pharmaceuticals chemical engineering and biomedical research. I am particularly passionate about helping students overcome the common fear of organic chemistry by showing them that mechanisms follow logical patterns once the underlying principles are understood. I maintain a vast collection of curated practice problems molecular visualisations and exam papers from multiple examination boards. Beyond tutoring I write educational materials for chemistry textbooks and volunteer as a science fair judge. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that chemistry explains the material world and every student deserves to understand it deeply.

Chemistry is the science of transformation and my teaching method reflects that dynamic nature. I organise learning around the central pillars of structure bonding energetics and change using a spiral curriculum where concepts reappear at deeper levels. For organic chemistry I teach students to think in terms of electron movement and reaction mechanisms rather than rote memorisation of equations. I use molecular modelling kits drawing exercises and animated reaction mechanisms to make the invisible world of molecules visible. Every lesson balances theoretical explanation with practical application connecting chemical principles to medicine materials food science and environmental issues. I teach systematic nomenclature as a language that can be decoded rather than memorised and emphasise the predictive power of periodic trends. Laboratory skills are integrated into theory lessons through video analysis of experiments and discussions of experimental design. For exam preparation I focus on precise terminology balanced chemical equations and the logical sequencing of multi-step calculations. Students learn to approach stoichiometry thermodynamics and equilibrium problems with confidence and methodical clarity.
