About Diana
Hello! I am a guitar teacher with over 4 years of experience helping more than 200 students of all ages learn to play the guitar. I teach across all major styles — classical, folk, acoustic, rock, pop, blues, and jazz — and at all levels from complete beginner through to advanced performer. My teaching is shaped by many years of my own playing and performing, and the practical, musical perspective that comes from performing experience is something I bring into every lesson. I cover technique, theory, ear training, sight reading, improvisation, and composition, alongside the repertoire and style-specific skills that each student's goals require. I am experienced with ABRSM and Trinity classical guitar examinations at all grades, and I have prepared students for music college and conservatory auditions. I also teach a large number of students who are playing purely for pleasure, with no examination or audition goal, and for whom the only standard is the music they are capable of making. I am patient, enthusiastic, and genuinely curious about each student's musical personality and goals. I believe that every student has something musical to express, and that the guitar — uniquely versatile, uniquely expressive, and uniquely portable — is one of the best instruments for expressing it. Helping students find and develop their own musical voice on the guitar is what I find most satisfying about my work.

I teach guitar with a strong emphasis on developing genuine musical understanding alongside technical skill, because a guitarist who can play technically but has no harmonic, rhythmic, or structural understanding will always be limited in what they can create and how quickly they can learn new music. Developing that understanding is what allows students to go beyond reproducing what they have been shown and to start making genuinely independent musical decisions.Technically, I teach whatever technique the student's musical goals require — classical right-hand technique for classical and fingerstyle players, pick technique for electric and acoustic strummers, hybrid picking for those working across styles. I pay close attention to efficiency and ergonomics, because comfortable, sustainable technique is both better for the player's long-term health and more musically effective than tense, effortful playing.I teach students to play in the styles they love, but I also broaden their musical horizons where I can — introducing classical students to the richness of the jazz tradition, introducing rock students to the harmonic sophistication of classical music — because the most accomplished guitarists have typically drawn on more than one musical tradition, and cross-stylistic understanding makes players more versatile, more creative, and more capable of developing a genuinely individual musical voice.
