About Andrea

I have been tutoring Maths and Physics at varying levels (GCSE to degree) since April 2011, but have had a hiatus in private tutoring since around 2015. Since then I have instructed example classes and tutorials at both undergraduate and postgraduate level Physics, Astrophysics and Maths.

I have always received good feedback from my tutees, and I take great satisfaction in watching them learn and succeed. I have the qualifications and experience within Physics and Maths to be able to tutor at any required level. I also have 6+ years experience coding, researching and writing essays/dissertations, which I would be more than willing to help any potential students with.

I have experience as a self-employed tutor and also as a tutor within a learning institution (Staffordshire Tuition), here I gained the experience of teaching younger children, group lessons and also teaching children and teenagers in care that can not attend mainstream schools.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is to first focus on the key concepts and ideas given in the tutee's course, then to apply this knowledge to worked examples and walk the tutee through the solutions step by step. I usually leave the tutee with a few suitable questions to do as homework for practice, if they don't seem over-burdened with what has been covered. I always use the relevant textbook/subject guide to their exam board, usually a CGP book as they are the most digestible.

Once I'm convinced that the student understands the material I will move on to the relevant past exam papers from the specific exam board. Again, walking them through the approach and solution to the questions, and then leaving one to do for homework. Then it's just a matter of repeating these until we can get to the desired grade consistently.

Although rarely the case, if the tutee is consistently struggling I will usually contact the tutee's teacher (either directly or via the tutee when they next see them) for further guidance on what areas to focus on and how to approach the material.
