About Alexei

I recently graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor's degree in Data Science. For my degree I took 3 collegiate level physics courses, and took a variety of math courses including calculus (up to Calc III/Vector Calc), statistics, and linear algebra. I also attended Hillsdale High School and there I took a variety of noteworthy courses and tests which I took for college applications, but can be used as a metric to illustrate my qualifications to teach. These scores are as follows:
- SAT: 1480 (Math: 800, ELA: 680)
- Math Subject Test (up to precalculus): 800
- AP Calculus AB Test: 5
- AP Physics II Test: 4

While tests are nice to make sure I know the information I'm teaching, that doesn't really matter if you don't have good teaching skills. Some past experiences that I've done which show my ability to communicate effectively and teach are as follows:

- Ice Hockey Volunteer Youth Coach
- UCSD Club Ice Hockey Team Captain
- UCSD Ice Hockey Club President

About the lesson

I enjoy being patient and hands on with students. I believe that it's important to understand the way a student thinks and goes about solving the problems that are in front of them. Being able to relate to a student makes it easier to explain the correct way to handle a given problem. I'm also a firm believer that a student can only truly learn and absorb information if they practice what they are taught. Therefore, my lessons will focus on the following:
1. introducing/teaching any missing or new material
2. doing example problems alongside student
3. letting the student do practice problems on their own (with my guidance if necessary)

This is a simple and straightforward lesson plan, but it will allow me to observe and work alongside the student on a variety and large number of problems. From my experience I have found that the best learning comes from making mistakes, so what better way to do that then for the student to get as much hands on experience as possible once they have an introductory grasp on the material. Furthermore, I have also found that all students are different, so therefore, I will teach every student in the way that I think is best for them, including being flexible with the lesson plan. I genuinely enjoy the subjects that I am choosing to teach and am confident and excited to help you or your student learn!
