I am a DPhil (PhD) at Oxford and a former teacher at LSE’s Data Science Institute, with master's degrees from LSE and Peking University, and an undergraduate degree from UIBE. I have worked across China and in the UK, but most of my teaching nowadays takes place online via Zoom. I have been giving Python programming lessons for 10 years and most of my students have stayed with me for 4-8 years, having gone from complete beginners to building sophisticated projects and landing positions at top tech companies and universities. Apart from my programming lessons, I have been teaching data engineering and statistics at LSE and Oxford. A typical lesson (1.5-2hrs) follows the Harvard CS50 syllabus and uses hands-on coding exercises, depending on the student's experience level and goals — we shall determine the best learning path during our first class. My teaching style is approachable and patient, welcoming students of all ages from children to seniors. Speaking both Mandarin Chinese and Russian, I understand how different thinking patterns can lead to common programming mistakes and know proven methods to overcome them. I pay particular attention to teaching fundamental programming concepts, debugging techniques, and problem-solving strategies with clear explanations of how code actually works, to make sure that students are well-prepared for real-world programming challenges as well as technical interviews and computer science coursework. All ages welcome - from curious 8-year-olds to career-changing professionals!
