About Yuan-Hsuan
I am a Los Angeles-based dancer originally from Taiwan, specializing in Contemporary, Jazz, and Chinese Dance. My movement vocabulary seamlessly blends the grounded fluidity of Eastern traditional dance with the dynamic power of contemporary styles. With a diverse background spanning proscenium theater productions, commercial shoots, and international residencies, I am passionate about exploring cross-cultural physical expression and storytelling through movement.

My Teaching Method and Techniques
My teaching philosophy is built on "body awareness" and "cultural fusion." I specialize in combining the fluid, grounded foundations of Eastern physical expressions (such as Chinese dance and traditional folk dance) with the flow and explosive power of Contemporary and Jazz dance.
In my classes, I don't just ask students to simply "copy" movements. Instead, through guided exploration, I help you understand the initiation of movement and body mechanics. I incorporate Foco Technique and Floorwork concepts—which I have been actively refining in Los Angeles—to guide students on how to interact with the floor safely and seamlessly. You will learn how to transition between different movement textures to showcase your unique physical vocabulary and emotional tension.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A standard 60 to 90-minute session generally follows this structure, which can be flexibly adjusted based on the student's goals and current level:
Warm-up & Body Conditioning: Focusing on joint mobility, core activation, and spinal articulation to awaken body awareness and prevent injuries.
Technique Drills: Foundational exercises tailored to the day's theme, such as sliding and weight-shifting in Floorwork, or practicing how to integrate the "circularity" and "breath" of Eastern dance into the sharpness of contemporary movement.
Choreography / Improvisation: Learning a combination that fuses multiple stylistic elements, or engaging in guided improvisation with specific spatial and textural constraints to train adaptability and creativity.
Cool Down & Feedback: Deep stretching to release tension, followed by constructive, two-way feedback and specific practice recommendations based on the day's progress.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
My unique advantage lies in my cross-cultural movement fusion and diverse industry experience.
I possess rigorous traditional dance company training—having performed in large-scale, ticketed proscenium stage productions—while also holding extensive commercial and competitive experience. My portfolio includes dancing in music videos for renowned artists (e.g., Gummy B), commercial advertisements (Sofy), professional dance films, and major street dance competitions. Recently, I have been actively working in Los Angeles, participating in international programs like the MATCH Residency and co-creating with various choreographers.
This dual perspective—as both a "theater performer" and a "commercial dancer"—allows me to help students not only build a solid physical foundation but also learn how to command the camera, master stage presence, and establish their own unique artistic style.
Who the Lessons Are For
My curriculum is highly adaptable and designed for a variety of students:
Beginners / Dance Enthusiasts: Those looking to unlock their physical potential, build coordination, and gain confidence in a safe, encouraging environment.
Intermediate to Advanced Dancers: Dancers eager to break out of a single stylistic framework, seeking to seamlessly blend the delicacy of Eastern dance with the dynamic energy of Contemporary/Jazz, or those wanting to specifically hone their Floorwork skills.
Audition & Casting Prep: Dancers preparing for domestic or international company auditions (including improvisation and choreography reels), structuring a personal solo, or looking to elevate their on-camera performance charisma for commercial shoots.
