About Elena

I absolutely love tutoring and working with people of all ages and on all projects. I seek to make the lessons as individualized and tailored to the student's specific needs as possible. I have over ten years of experience tutoring in the private sphere and the school system as well. I specialize in social sciences, arts, humanities, reading, writing and study skills. I aim to make holistic and proactive lessons and study plans for my students and hope to grow with them!

About the lesson

Hello! My name is Elena and I am a current PhD student studying Art History and Critical Theory. I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College where I studied Art History and Literature. I have a range of experience tutoring both elementary and high school students-- from topics ranging from math, reading, writing, social studies and study skills. I am patient and understanding and I seek to foster a love of learning with my students. I am flexible and always endeavour to provide tailored lessons to my students to fit their interests.

I studied at a very research and writing-based university where we were required to complete three 25-page papers a semester, therefore I developed effective research and communications skills. Writing and literature are two of my passions and I am excited to share these interests with others. I provide practical skills to better equip my students to reach their full potential and 'voice' within writing and literature. This may include useful sites to gather research, structuring arguments, editing and proofreading.

I studied Social Sciences in my undergraduate and I am now completing a Masters in a related field so I offer a level of expertise in subjects such as History, Anthropology and Politics. I am happy to offer reviews and tailored lessons to help students better understand a subject matter.

After living in Siena, Tuscany for two years, I am conversationally fluent in Italian. I love the culture and language of Italy and I am eager to share it with others. When learning a new language a holistic approach is key, which is why I employ a variety of different methods-- ranging from music, grammar games, conversation practice and listening.

As someone who struggled with some subjects in school growing up, I am more than aware of the importance tutors hold in not only succeeding in class but also fostering a love of learning. I want my students to benefit as much as possible-- I see it as my obligation to provide the best care and detailed lessons. I look forward to meeting with you soon!
