About Claire
"It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning-- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." That's definitely a prized quote from a well-read book.
Hello~~~! I'm Claire. The name is actually inspired by the piece Clair de lune, for classical music lovers out there. I play the piano and violin, and also have a broad passion for psychology -- how people think, behave, reason, debate, and resolve conflicts. I'm originally from California, so if you have any questions about the West Coast, I would be happy to answer them anytime. If you're wondering about my personality, my friends would describe me in three words: positive, thoughtful, and kind. A fun fact about me is that I am obsessed with jellyfish, although if you do not harbor feelings for these cnidarians, I can still accept that ;)
My best advice for students whether they choose to learn from me or not is: read more. Read any book your fingertips can land on. The belief behind reading a book is that you will embark on one of the greatest journeys there will ever be. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Welcome! You have found the right tutor for your avid reader and student. As far as my method of teaching, I take an approach that extends itself to understanding the student's background, and actively engaging with him or her to identify their personalized weaknesses and strengths in writing: e.g. structure, tone, vocabulary, and evidence-based reasoning. Back in high school, I was familiar with both the AP and IGCSE English exams, and I also took my SAT, placing at 1470. Again, these lessons are meant for elementary to middle school students who need some aid to achieve their goals in studying. I am looking specifically to meet the demands of 8th graders who are studying for their SSAT's, although other grade levels up to 8th grade are also welcome. My mantra is: "Study hard, stay humble." Hope that I can help both the student and the parent happy with their results!
