About Mary
I am a passionate practitioner of my subject, and dedicated to making others feel the joy in English, and the confidence to approach public exams. I have received a 1st class degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford, a distinction at PGCE, and am currently working on an MSc in Romantic and Victorian Literature - but I certainly didn't always feel a natural English scholar. Small steps, practice and faith in one's self, as well as knowledge of exam requirements can work wonders.

I have been teaching in for nearly 10 years, individually, in small groups, and to a classroom of 30+ teenagers! My pupils have secured scholarships to highly competitive private schools, as well as making significant progress in underperforming state schools. My lessons will typically be 1-1.5 hours long. One-to-one teaching should be a rigorous, but joyful experience - I am committed to highly personalised, professional, proactive planning and teaching to make my pupils feel confident, autonomous and better learners for life.
