About Alison

I am a current secondary-school Mandarin teacher in London with 15 years of teaching experience. I am passionate about helping students build confidence in Mandarin and achieve their academic goals.

I have extensive experience teaching GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and HSK Mandarin, and I understand the requirements and challenges students face at each level. As a current classroom teacher, I bring real-world teaching experience and a strong understanding of how to support students effectively.

My lessons are professional, structured and personalised to each student. Whether you are preparing for an examination, looking to improve your grades, or simply want to develop your Mandarin skills, I will adapt my teaching to your individual needs and learning style.

I aim to create a friendly and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their confidence. My goal is not only to help students achieve strong results, but also to help them become more confident and independent Mandarin learners.

About the lesson

I am a current secondary-school Mandarin teacher in London with 15 years of teaching experience. I specialise in GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and HSK Mandarin, working with students from beginner to advanced levels. All students at school have 100 percent pass rate, 80 percent students achieved level 7 or above.

My approach is structured, supportive and tailored to each student. I first identify their current level, strengths and areas for improvement, then build lessons around their individual goals. For exam students, I focus on developing the specific skills needed for success, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar and exam technique.

I use a combination of guided practice, questioning, conversation, vocabulary building, grammar exercises and authentic Mandarin materials to make lessons engaging and effective. I also provide clear feedback and practical strategies that students can use independently between lessons.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged for students preparing for exams or with specific learning needs.

My lessons are suitable for complete beginners, secondary-school students, GCSE, IGCSE and A-Level students, as well as learners preparing for HSK examinations or anyone wanting to develop their Mandarin from beginner to advanced level.

With 15 years of classroom teaching experience, I understand not only the language itself but also how to explain it clearly, identify common difficulties and help students make measurable progress.
