About Shreya
I am a Graduate Student at Boston University with a background in Mathematics, Biology (on level, honors, AP), and English. I have 4+ years of tutoring experience, 2 of which is from Kumon and the other 2 of personal tutoring lessons. I believe that learning should be engaging, simple, and relevant. My approach to teaching focuses on conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and practical application rather than rote memorization. I build a positive and cooperative classroom learning environment in which students are encouraged to question and think critically. Through lessons tailored to the individual strengths and learning style of each student, I facilitate them to build a strong foundation in Math, English, and Science. My strategy is to break down challenging subjects into simple-to-grasp ideas, using real-life examples to relate learning, problem-solving methods, active engagement, and constant feedback to make students feel qualified and capable in their fields.

My teaching method and techniques include focusing on a student's weakness to create a plan accordingly by incorporating discussions, quizzes, and practice problems using real-world applications, emphasizing the importance of progressive learning and practice creating perfection. If errors are made then, I first ask the students to describe their reasoning and correct them in a proper feedback method. The lesson plan: First few minutes would be reviewing what we last talked about. Then, asking for what topic needs to be covered today and introducing the concept by using real-world examples, working through practice problems, allowing the student to work on problems alone for a bit and then discussing if there are any issues while clearing doubts. Practice Problems for the next week will be given. What sets me apart as a tutor is that I incorporate all subjects into each individual subject, for example by using word problems in mathematics which increases reading comprehension ability as well. I also encourage that students learn from their mistakes and allow them to be open to discussion for correction while answering their doubts. I use periodic reviews to ensure they are not just rote memorizing information but able to apply it effectively. The lessons are for all students wanting to learn more in Mathematics, specifically algebra and geometry from K-12. Additionally, students wanting help in English language for better comprehension and grammar as well as Biology and Basic Chemistry from K-12 students.
