About Aileen

I have a long history of loving English - the language, the literature, the writing - and decided to translate that love into helping others love it just as much! This first began with me getting my Bachelor's degree in English from Clemson University, and then moving on to obtaining my Master's degree in Writing from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). After graduating from SCAD, I decided to pursue a career in teaching and have been doing it ever since! I've taught high school English for 6 years now and have taken a turn at each of the levels. I've taught English 1, English 2, English 3, and English 4, but have the most teaching experience with English 1 and English 2. That being said, I also teach test prep (especially for state tests) and love being able to encourage my students to do their very best. I'm excited to continue to help and inspire students through both teaching and tutoring, so don't be afraid to turn to me if you need help!

About the lesson

Lessons with me include: a warm-up/introduction to see what you already know, a few notes to help you remember the content later on, an example/model of the content that we work through together, and a few individualized practices that you'll do on your own before we look through them together. The last part also ensures that we're seeing the content you already get versus what you're still unsure on. Sometimes, we will also have an "exit ticket" where we review the lesson to see what you gained most from it. Once I get to know you more and your learning style, I like to take this into account in order to best help you! Therefore, if you're a visual learner you might get more notes, but if you're an auditory learner, you might get more lessons where we're making up songs to help you remember the content. I also always want to make sure to best understand YOUR needs, so if you have a disability of some sort (ADHD, Autism, Physical disability, etc.) then I will certainly take this into account when figuring out how to best help you. These lessons are made for mainly high school students (9th-12th grade), but could also be for middle school students. Come to me, and see the difference!
