About Brian
As a biology student, I've faced many challenges with memorization through the years. Surprisingly, I found that courses I took not related to biology were the ones where I actually became a better biology student. I gained a better understanding of what it means to be a life-long learner and picked up a number of better study habits along the way. I've never found success in just memorizing new information, but when I logically think it through and incorporate it with my current knowledge, I find I can truly learn. As a Biological Sciences Master's student at Hunter College, I know a great deal about biology, but more importantly, I know how to learn and how to teach.

The key to learning is understanding what works for you. So to start, I would want to understand more about the student, what they're interested in and how they think through problems. The point of a tutor is to have someone provide 1 on 1 help for a student and there is not some 1 size fits all plan for that to work. As a tutor, I could help shed light on some complicated aspects of biology, but at the end of the day to succeed in biology you have to learn how to understand broad concepts and not just memorize. Although memorization is still the biggest challenge for any biology student, learning better study techniques and working harder are the real ways to find success.
Through my education, I've specialized in biology. At Colgate University I majored in Molecular Biology, and now I'm pursuing a Master's degree in Biological Sciences at Hunter College. I've always enjoyed and excelled in STEM classes, but I know that is not the case for everyone. Given my experiences, I believe I can teach biology effectively at any level. No one can force a student to memorize new information, but I can teach them more effective ways to think through the material and integrate it with their current knowledge.
