About April
I hold a B.A. in English, minors in Professional Writing and Creative Writing, certificates in TESOL, Linguistic Studies, and Manual Communication, as well as an M.A. in Higher Education Administration. I have 3-4 years of tutoring experience at the university level, and several more years in K-12 tutoring. I am a co-author on an internationally-presented academic article and have two publications in a university creative literary journal.

No two people learn or communicate in the same ways. I approach tutoring by learning the individual's communication goals: what are they trying to achieve? Then we can move on to discussing how to achieve those goals. In the process, I learn a bit about their core attitudes, either towards the assignment, writing, reading - whatever may be causing a mental block. We discuss what the individual already knows, and build off of that. The ultimate goal is that by the end of the tutoring session(s), the work can continue independently and peacefully.

Details
I prefer to meet in a public place for in-person lessons, although exceptions can be made.
A $5 fee will be added if the meeting place is 10mi or over from my home.
