About Lilo

I have always been very interested in a very wide variety of topics and read as much as possible throughout my life. I love fictional stories that present characters and situations that one may never encounter in one's own life, but which nonetheless presents an experience that you will probably never have yourself. It stretches the mind and imagination to thinking about the lived experiences of others, and realizing the enormous variety of experiences and thoughts present in the world.

With nonfiction subjects, I am particularly interested in social subjects, and I love studying human beings, and what makes them tick. For me it is related to understanding myself, the world around me, and how I fit into everything. Thinking about my purpose in life, and what I can contribute to society.

Social Studies: I particularly enjoy teaching students about socially relevant issues such as economics, politics, employment, the historical context of a country's economic system, and engaging them in thinking about inequality, and ideas for ways to improve life and living standards within a country. I am also quite fluent in teaching international relations and diplomacy, international aid to developing countries, and critical social realities that are the focus of international efforts at development and change. Such sessions are aimed at more mature students who are at a stage of deciding what they would like to study at university level.

In all my lessons, I prepare materials that is primarily aimed at facilitating discussion and participation. It is not for me to ramble off a bunch of facts, but rather to stimulate the student to ingest the information, engage with it critically, and talk to me about it in a type of debating style. It is important to me to leave a teaching session with the student still thinking the new information over, looking for additional information that they can perhaps raise with me if I am in a session with them again, and develop critical thinking skills that helps them interpret and understand any topic they may encounter.

I love history of all kinds, of particular subject fields, prominent individuals, as well as countries and nations. I can prepare material for any historical topic a student needs to learn about and engage with them about what the current situation in the world is as a result of these historical events.

I love teaching philosophy and ways of thinking about the world, life, oneself, ethics, history, and self-development with the aid of great thinkers on the nature of reality, religion, and the soul's journey through embodiment. With philosophy, it is often not the subject matter that is of most importance, it is the critical thinking skills that one learns when considering a theory or argument, and formulating one's own response to it in a logical and comprehensive way.

Related to the development and socio-economic conditions of nations mentioned above, I enjoy teaching about health, health access, and mental health/psychology in particular. Psychology, philosophy, history, and anthropology make a powerful combination for understanding one's own cultural conditioning and grasping different psychological states, managing one's own difficulties, and recognizing abnormal psychological states.

All of the subject fields I teach are aimed at more mature students, from about the age of 15 or 16 and upwards.
