About Bilal

I’m Bilal, a published writer, commissioned performance poet and creative educator with over five years of creative and industry experience. I hold a Master’s in Creative Writing with Distinction and a BA in English with First-Class honours.

My work spans writing, performance and creative development. I’m interested in the psychological, philosophical and human dimensions of creativity: not just how we make things, but why we make them, what they reveal about us and how creative expression can enrich our lives.

I’m Bilal, a published writer, commissioned performance poet and creative educator with over five years of creative and industry experience. I hold a Master’s in Creative Writing with Distinction and a BA in English with First-Class honours.

My work spans writing, performance and creative development. I’m interested in both the craft of making art and the deeper questions surrounding creativity: why we create, how we develop our abilities, and what creative expression can bring to our lives.

My coaching combines academic knowledge, practical creative experience and thoughtful discussion. I offer a supportive space to experiment, receive constructive feedback, challenge your assumptions and develop your ideas with greater confidence and intention.

Whether you’re looking to reconnect with your creative side, deepen your understanding of your chosen craft or bring an ambitious project to life, coaching is tailored to your individual goals.

About the lesson

Creativity doesn’t have to be your career to deserve a place in your life. Whether you’re a busy professional looking to reconnect with a neglected creative side or an artist seeking to develop your craft, creative coaching offers dedicated time to explore ideas, build skills and make meaningful progress.

I offer bespoke, one-to-one creative coaching tailored to your interests, experience and ambitions. You don’t need to be an established artist or have a finished project. You might want to rediscover a creative outlet, explore a new discipline, overcome a creative block or develop a substantial piece of work.

Sessions can include:

• Specialised craft and theory: understanding the techniques, principles and creative decisions that underpin your chosen discipline.
• Individual feedback and critique: examining your work in depth, identifying strengths and areas for development, and exploring how to take it further.
• Practical workshops: applying techniques through guided exercises, experimentation and creative challenges.
• Long-term project development: working on poems, short stories, novels, manuscripts and other creative projects, from initial ideas through drafting and revision to completion.
• Creative philosophy and mindset: exploring creativity, identity, purpose, discipline and artistic development, and understanding the role a creative practice can play in a fulfilling life.
• Reconnecting with creativity: finding inspiration, working through self-doubt and making space for creative expression alongside professional and personal responsibilities.

Sessions are shaped around what you need. We can focus on a specific project, develop your technical understanding, explore your creative interests or establish an ongoing coaching relationship to support your progress over time.

My approach combines structured teaching with open-ended exploration. The aim isn’t to turn every passion into a profession or impose a formula on your creativity. It’s to help you develop your abilities, understand your own creative process and make creativity a more meaningful part of your life.

Sessions are available online and in person in Birmingham.

Important: £50/hour for face-to-face tuition within my local area, with travel fees applicable depending on location. Please enquire for the exact rate before booking.

I have known Bilal in a personal and professional capacity for 4 years. From my role as a course coordinator for the English department at Saudi Electronic University to my current role as a freelance writer, editor, and teacher, I have known him to a reliable, organised, and hardworking individual.

I have indeed used Bilal for his professional services as a writer and aide multiple times. Bilal has always been willing to take on any task put to him, whenever I have reached out, at however much short notice. I would not hesitate to use Bilal again.

In my opinion, Bilal is thorough and resourceful in everything he puts his mind to. I sincerely believe that you will find an honest and friendly teacher in him, willing to bring the best out of his students and peers.

I think Bilal is a trustworthy tutor as he helped me understand and write more with work I struggled with and he also helped me with excess analysis that I lacked. After Bilal’s tutoring session, I felt much more confident in myself and had a much better understanding of the exam style and question techniques.
