About Hyeongwoo
Hi, I’m Woo, a London-based guitarist, music producer, and sound specialist originally from Seoul, South Korea. Country and roots music has been my lifelong passion for over 20 years, ever since I first picked up an instrument at age seven.
I have been teaching since 2015, working as a private guitar instructor and music production tutor at private music academies in Seoul. After completing my Bachelor’s degree at the University of West London and my Master’s degree at the University of York, I have continued to work professionally across sound design, music production, and private tutoring.
My multidisciplinary background across audio engineering and the visual arts allows me to mentor students with patience, clear structure, and fresh musical insight. Whether you want to master thumb independence, explore authentic lap steel tone, or simply dive deep into country music, please feel free to get in touch. I look forward to playing together!

My teaching approach is strictly student-centred, tailored to your musical goals and pace. In our 1-hour sessions, we will build a solid foundation covering everything from classic Chet Atkins and Merle Travis picking mechanics to mastering complex fingerstyle arrangements.
For lap steel enthusiasts, I guide you step-by-step through various open tunings, bar control, tone shaping, and adapting these timeless techniques to your favourite songs.
Holding a BA in Music Technology and an MA in Film & TV Production (Sound), I do not just teach notes - I help you develop an authentic, nuanced sound. If you are also interested in home recording, I can also share practical audio production and mixing techniques to capture your guitar with studio-grade polish. Lessons are open to all levels, from curious beginners to advanced players looking for a niche edge.
