About Andres
A Negotiator, a Storyteller, a Teacher
My path to teaching Spanish is not a straight line — it's a rich, intercontinental arc that has made me a fundamentally different kind of tutor.
I was born in Colombia, educated in New York at the School of Visual Arts, and shaped professionally across Bogotá, Madrid, Paris, Montreal, and Chicago. I speak Spanish, English, and French at an advanced level — which means I don't just know languages, I've lived inside them, negotiated in them, and built professional careers across all three.
The Negotiator. For nearly two decades, I have been a Senior Consultant and Director at Tandem Insourcing, advising governments, multinationals, and corporations on some of the most high-stakes negotiations imaginable — from serving as Colombia's strategic advisor for the Free Trade Agreement with the United States, to resolving a 32-day mining strike with a 4,500-person union, to advising British Petroleum in a six-month community negotiation in the Colombian oil fields. I have trained negotiators for Ecopetrol (Colombia's national oil company) and resolved a USD 600 million contract dispute with the Guatemalan government. This is the world of corporate language I bring into every lesson: precise, purposeful, and built for results.
The Storyteller. Long before the boardroom, I sat in a workshop in Cuba learning the art of dialogue from Gabriel García Márquez — Nobel Prize laureate and one of the greatest writers in the Spanish language. As a collaborator on the series Me Alquilo para Soñar, which was based on his original idea, I absorbed something that no grammar textbook can teach: how sentences breathe, how conversation flows, and how meaning is built word by word in real, natural speech. I later co-wrote screenplays in Madrid, directed television films that won the Premio Simón Bolívar, and negotiated international film and TV rights in the US, Europe, and Singapore as Programming and Production Manager at City TV.
The Professor. I have taught Negotiation, Networking, and High-Performance Teams at Universidad de Los Andes (MBA and EMBA programs) for over 12 years, at Skema Business School in Paris, McGill University in Montreal, and Universidad Sergio Arboleda in Bogotá — earning student evaluations of 94/100 and 4.9/5. My academic training includes Advanced Negotiation at Harvard and the University of Michigan, a Master's in Anthropology from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, and Gestalt therapy certification in Spain — which means I understand how people learn, how they resist change, and how to meet them exactly where they are.
When you learn Spanish with me, you are not working with someone who read about business or cobbled together a teaching method from YouTube. You are working with someone who has sat across the table from union leaders, government ministers, and multinational executives — and who has spent a lifetime understanding how language builds trust, closes deals, and opens doors.
That is the Spanish I will teach you.

Learning a language takes time, structure, and deliberate practice. You won’t be speaking fluently on day one, but you will be building the exact blocks needed to communicate clearly, professionally, and naturally. My lessons bridge the gap between textbook grammar and how real people—and professionals—actually communicate.
My lessons are designed for driven individuals who need practical, high-impact language skills:
-Business Professionals & Executives: Anyone needing to navigate corporate environments, conduct meetings, negotiate, or network in Spanish-speaking markets.
-Adult & General Learners: Individuals who want a structured, no-nonsense approach to achieving functional, real-world fluency for travel or personal growth.
-Students (School/University): Learners who need to master grammar, expand vocabulary, and improve their grades or test scores .
I combine my corporate background with my experience in scriptwriting to focus on functional structure and natural dialogue.
Because of my scriptwriting background, I understand exactly how native speakers construct sentences in real life. We focus on the pacing, rhythm, and idioms of actual conversation, avoiding stiff, textbook-only phrases.
The Corporate Application: We use real business scenarios—like mock interviews, presentations, or professional emails—to ensure your vocabulary matches your professional stature.
Step-by-Step Progression:We build your skills systematically. We master the fundamentals of grammar and pronunciation first, ensuring you have a strong foundation before moving to complex conversations.
Every session is structured to ensure steady, measurable progress:
1. Review & Correction (10 Minutes): We review your previous homework, correct any recurring mistakes, and warm up your pronunciation.
2. Core Concept Introduction (20 Minutes):*Clear instruction on a specific grammatical structure, vocabulary set, or business communication tool.
3. Structured Application (20 Minutes): We put the concept into practice through guided exercises, role-play scenarios, or targeted writing blocks.
4. Feedback & Technical Blueprint (10 Minutes): A direct breakdown of what went well, what needs adjustment, and a specific assignment to practice before the next lesson.
My value comes from a unique blend of practical corporate experience and high-level linguistic execution:
Real Business Acumen: I have worked in the business world. I don't just teach Spanish; I teach the precise, professional language used in corporate boardrooms and executive settings.
Mastery of Dialogue: Co-writing with Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez didn't make me a literature teacher—it gave me a masterclass in how to construct flawless, impactful dialogue. I bring that deep understanding of sentence structure and verbal flow to help you sound natural.
*A Grounded, Realistic Approach: I don't promise overnight miracles. I offer a structured, professional, and highly effective environment for serious learners who value substance over gimmicks.
