About Justin

I was born and raised in Indonesia and currently live in Bali. I've always had a passion for communication, language, and creativity. My career began as a host on a comedy television program, and then expanded into various fields, including video editing and management, as well as training. However, among all those experiences, one of the most meaningful was when I started teaching Indonesian. Initially, I was just helping a close friend from abroad who wanted to learn Indonesian. From there, I was recommended by one student to another, until I realized that teaching wasn't just a side job, but a calling. I feel joy every time I see my students' expressions when they can connect language lessons to things they know in their daily lives. It's always a special moment for me. Outside of teaching, I work as an online video editor and also run a local property business in Bali. I usually spend my free time playing soccer, walking in the rice fields or on the beach, and occasionally exploring waterfalls. These activities also enrich my teaching style, as I always have new stories to share with my students. For me, a language class is not just a learning space, but also a place to exchange stories, experiences, and perspectives. Therefore, I hope my students will see me not only as a teacher, but also as a friend. Together, we will not only learn Indonesian but also discover the warmth of Indonesian culture and society itself.

About the lesson

As a teacher, learning a language isn't just about memorizing words or grammar, but also about understanding the culture, stories, and ways of thinking of the people who speak it. That's why I constantly adapt my teaching methods to my students' needs. Some want to focus on everyday conversation, others want to delve deeper into grammar, and still others are interested in history and unique Indonesian trivia. I enjoy presenting everything in a fun and lighthearted way, while remaining serious when necessary.

The Indonesian language itself has a unique appeal: it's simple, easy to learn, and enriched with thousands of loanwords from various world languages. Because of this, many foreigners feel familiar with it even before actually learning. However, what makes the learning experience even more alive is when the language is combined with stories about Indonesia, from the beauty of Bali and its diverse culture to the more than 700 regional languages that are part of our national heritage.
