About Simon
I am a computer scientist and software engineer with a PhD and nearly 15 years of experience in tutoring, university lecturing, and mathematical research. I have an exceptional academic record at school and university, with expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, higher mathematics, and computer programming.
I pride myself on being friendly, approachable, supportive and encouraging. My goal is to enable students to succeed in their mathematical and technical studies, and even to share with them my enjoyment of and love for mathematics.

I offer expert tutoring in secondary school mathematics for students in Years 9-13, NCEA levels 1-3.
My methodology focuses on building conceptual understanding by working through concrete examples, and by helping students through problem sets. I adapt my teaching to each student's learning pace, often basing lessons around each student's classroom material to complement their in-school learning.
If you're struggling with foundational concepts, I can help you work through obstacles, and build confidence and ability by guiding you through appropriate problem sets. If you want to get to the top of the class, I can tailor lessons to improve your weaker areas, and help you figure out more difficult extension problems.
Typical lessons run for 60 minutes, though I can accommodate 90-minute sessions for students tackling particularly challenging material or preparing for major assessments.
