About Curtis

Hi I'm Curtis! I have been tutoring for over 6 years, and I specialize in high school math, specifically precalculus. I started by simply helping my classmates with their work. Since then, I have tutored for my high school, college and for tutoring organizations such as Maison d’Étude Academy. In addition, I have been recommended by my college to help instruct other students in most of my courses. About the lesson

As an experienced tutor, it has become pretty clear to me what the most common learning barrier is: teachers simply passing along information to students: giving formulas, listing facts, browsing through some exercises and expecting students to perform. However, this is NOT the way to properly learn and is the primary cause of students’ frustration, especially in math. I firmly believe the correct teaching style is crucial to the student retaining the information and having the capacity to build upon it. For instance, when I am teaching a topic in math to students, I make sure that they have grasped the concept and its significance before actually diving into the formulas and its applications. This ensures that when they eventually tackle more advanced topics, they will have an understanding of its foundation and what they are actually doing, rather than mindlessly applying formulas and hoping for the best.

My teaching style revolves around the student. Before I start a lesson with a student, I take the time to inspect the subject and prepare how I will teach it to the student in a manner that fits their learning style. I explain concepts in a way that matches how the student understands information. My lessons are light and easy, yet focused and concise. I am super easy going and easy to talk to!
