About Mahera
I'm a passionate student of Comparative Literature, and love to investigate how context shapes art. I want to teach you how to understand links between authors' lives and the work they produce; see the bigger picture when looking at a text, understanding underlying themes and how different aspects contribute to them; and how to come up with your own ideas regarding a text, and structure arguments to support your claims.
I don't just want to teach you English, Politics, or even just 'how to write an essay'. I hope that through these things, I can teach you how to think critically and apply your skills to anything in life. Literary analysis isn't just useful for those who want to study English in the future. It builds essential skills that you can take with you into any field. I want to teach you the subject in a way that emphasises this, rather than just teaching you the bare minimum that will only work for your GCSE or A-Level. This way, you'll get your top grades, and actually continue past them with important foundations in analytical thinking and how to stand your ground, no matter what your future holds.

I show students how to think critically, teaching them how to structure bulletproof argumentative essays that will push their work into the top levels examiners look for when awarding 9s and A*s. I encourage them to make their own arguments and support them against counterarguments, building analytical and debating skills that will serve them far beyond exam essay-writing.
Lesson slots are one hour, but I am more than open to booking two at once for a long session. I welcome students of all ages and levels of study up to and including A-Level, and am not exclusive to English Literature—I can teach English Language and Politics as well.
I have had experience teaching other students in my secondary school as part of its internal mentoring scheme. I have achieved 9s in English Language and Literature at GCSE and A* and A in English Literature and Politics A-Level respectively. My essays have won competitions hosted by the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
