About Rachel

I have a B.A. in English with a minor in Psychology. I also have an M.A. in Communications, and my Master's thesis was published in a research journal. I also have a certificate in Government Relations from Seneca College. I am on the communications team for an organization that publishes a magazine and is also involved with public policy, which has given me experience in both those areas. I have been tutoring for over 8 years. I also edit essays and reports. My clients have ranged from elementary school-aged students, to high school students, to adults. In the past, I have taught English writing and grammar to small classes of 5-10 elementary school students at an evening learning center. I was also a teaching assistant for two semesters in a first-year university English grammar class, where I marked a large number of university English essays.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I take into account everyone's individual personalities and needs. I try to get to know students first to determine the areas they most need to improve, along with their learning styles. The more time I spend with someone, the more I can learn about his or her weaknesses and strengths in English reading, writing, grammar, or comprehension. I want people to have fun as they learn, and I think learning about someone's interests and passions helps achieve that. My learning approach is flexible and can be adjusted according to the needs of the students. It includes working with the students' own assignments as well as using a combination of my own teaching material and online educational content. I assign homework when parents request homework to be assigned to the students.

My rate is $35/hr for online tutoring for elementary school, $40/hr for online Grade 9-10 tutoring, $45/hr for online Grade 11-12 tutoring, and $50/hr for online AP, SAT and university English tutoring.
