About Johan
I am an enthusiastic and energetic English teacher with a bachelor’s degree in communications from California State University San Marcos and a TEFL certification. As a former ESL student who lived in the United States for 20 years, I personally understand the challenges and frustrations that come with learning English. This experience allows me to connect with my students on a deeper level and support them with patience, empathy, and practical strategies that truly work. With over five years of teaching experience, I have worked with children ages 5–17 as well as adults 18 and up. I speak multiple languages and am highly aware of the cultural differences that influence how students learn and communicate. Currently, I run a non-profit afterschool program in the Philippines where I teach English to children with the goal of giving them tools to build confidence and communication skills in a supportive environment. Giving them the same gifts that learning English has provided me in life. I am committed to making English learning engaging, meaningful, accessible and practical for all students.

Having lived in many countries and residing in the United States for the last 20 years, I have developed tonal recognition and can help with accent reduction, pronunciation difficulties and overall phonetic production of the English language.
