About Alexis

I'm Alexis. I'm a 17 year old senior in high school. I absolutely love learning languages and appreciating other cultures. I love travelling as well but so far I've only been to 2 different countries and I plan on going to many more! Learning Japanese doesn't happen overnight unless you are passionate and study everyday. It helps with learning Japanese if there's a definite reason for learning it or there's a huge part of the culture that inspires you! Like for me, it was to understand Japanese music (Vocaloid).

It is amazing having a whole other group of people you can interact with and it's almost like taking a peek into another world. I love speaking to many different Japanese people daily and seeing their struggles, their daily life, and everything about them. With speaking another language, you can keep up with their news and latest trends, whether it be in music or just online in general.

Lget into my personal background. So no one in my family speaks more than one language. I guess I'm the odd one out. Back when I was at Cristo Rey I actually held a Japanese class and I was so honored to have a faculty member who lived in Japan and she taught me a lot of cultural things or new words that I never knew about.

More about me though, I love seafood and chocolate. I love all genres of music but my favorite artists are Melanie Martinez and MARINA. I love fashion (I'm super into Japanese fashion). I love Chinese and Japanese food. I also love Sanrio (like Hello Kitty), plushies, animals and anything cute.

About the lesson

Usually for absolute beginners I'd just start out teaching hiragana and katakana then move onto basic kanji. I then start teaching basic vocab words like food, animals, etc. Music is what helped me a lot with learning Japanese so that's something I always use.

My lessons are for children and teens or just people who are going to Japan and wanna know some useful phrases. I can also teach people moving to Japan more of the slang and cultural phrases.

I also recommend various different apps but the main thing that helps me is saying the word/phrase over and over again or just memorizing song lyrics.
