About Graysen
My name is Graysen, and I’m a Columbia University student majoring in Human Rights with a minor in Political Science. This summer, I’m working as a Communications Intern at the Urban Justice Center, supporting free legal services for LGBTQ+ youth, and as a student researcher and writer for the Center for the Study of Organized Hate, a D.C.-based think tank. I bring a strong foundation in reading, writing, and humanities analysis, developed through coursework in Human Rights Law, Gender and Power, and Democracy Backsliding. With experience as a youth justice advocate, editorial writer, and campaign team member for organizations focused on racial and social justice, I approach tutoring with empathy, rigor, and a global perspective. I teach learners of all ages, tailoring each session to the student’s needs—whether that’s close reading, essay writing, or building confidence in complex ideas. My goal is to help every student become a thoughtful, independent communicator.

As a tutor, I use a student-centered, discussion-based approach that cultivates curiosity, critical thinking, and clear expression. Each session is structured around the student’s goals, starting with a check-in, followed by close reading, analytical discussion, and writing development. Whether exploring a political essay, literary text, or social justice issue, I guide students to unpack complex ideas and communicate them with confidence. As a Columbia University student majoring in Human Rights and Political Science, I bring a deep understanding of humanities-based inquiry and a passion for empowering others through writing. I work with learners of all ages, from children building foundational skills to adults engaging advanced texts, because I believe thoughtful reading and writing are lifelong tools. What sets me apart is my ability to nurture voice, insight, and intellectual curiosity at every stage of a student’s journey.
