About Abigail

I'm an honors student at the University of Iowa (from Michigan and living there when not at college--remember that Zoom lessons are always an option!). I study translation, creative writing, and Spanish. I'm a translator in The Translate Iowa Project, where I translate literary work for the literary magazine Boundless as well as do translations for local non-profits. I've spent a month in Spain immersed in Spanish as I worked at a children's summer camp.
I'm an editor on Ink Lit Mag and The Foundationalist, both student-run literary magazines. I'm a published short story writer, and my work can be found in the Write Michigan 2021 Anthology and The Foundationalist.

About the lesson

The best way to learn a language is by using it. Lessons will be interactive, avoiding mindless memorization. We will interact with things that you already have an interest in (hobbies, academic interests, etc) so that you're learning vocabulary actually useful to you.

A typical lesson would go like this: we would start with a 5-minute conversation about what we went over last time. Then, we'd move to the main idea (accent work, grammar, vocabulary--whatever we need to work on!). Explanations will be given with many examples so that you can see Spanish being used in realistic contexts. Once you feel good about that, we can do a 10-minute review through either a conversation in Spanish or a writing exercise in Spanish.

Lessons can be held in Spanish, English, or a mix of both as suits your learning style! Lessons are also adaptable to any language level and any of your language goals--whether it's getting a good grade in a middle school language course, acing AP Spanish, or getting through university level courses, I'm more than happy to help!
