About Reena
I understand how challenging entry-level biology and chemistry courses can be, especially in large lecture settings where individualized support is limited. This was a frustration I experienced firsthand as a student, and it pushed me to develop effective strategies for understanding complex material independently. Those strategies allowed me to succeed academically, earning a 4.0 GPA as a Biology and Economics double major on the pre-med track while completing my degree in 3.5 years and serving as a General Chemistry I & II teaching assistant for three courses.
As a tutor, I focus on helping students build both understanding and confidence. I always provide follow-up notes or personalized study plans after sessions, help students learn how to study effectively, and track progress over time so improvement is measurable and consistent. My goal is not just short-term performance, but long-term mastery and independence.
In addition to academic tutoring, I take on a small number of students each application cycle for college essay coaching. I work with students through the entire process — from deciding who to ask for letters of recommendation to brainstorming, storytelling, structuring, and editing essays. I encourage students to be bold and reflective while remaining strategic about each prompt and institution. I draw from my own experience gaining admission to several top public and private Ivy League institutions and earning multiple full-ride scholarships, which gives me a practical, mentorship-focused approach to guiding students through this process.

My tutoring approach is flexible and tailored to each student’s goals, whether they are preparing for exams, building foundational understanding, or refining college application essays. For academic tutoring, I begin with content checks using the student’s own materials to identify gaps, then create lesson plans aligned with their course schedule so they stay confident with current topics while gaining exposure to upcoming material. I often design my own practice problems that mirror those provided by the student, which helps build confidence and reinforce mastery. Lessons use whiteboard-style walkthroughs, visuals, and verbal explanations, with an emphasis on conceptual understanding before transitioning into practice problems and exam strategies. For essay coaching, I guide students in identifying the life experiences that best answer each prompt and help refine storytelling, structure, and clarity. I have helped over a dozen students gain admission to top public and private Ivy-level universities, as well as direct medical programs.
