About Dave

I love math, always have. Jr high, halfway through the year I had straight 100% so they threw me into AP MATH without a word or explanation. From Basic arithmetic, that never required me to open a book and read one word, to equations. At that point in my life, I didn’t even understand that those equations were math. After the first exam, I was dropped back down into my level… No one ever tried to help me no one ever tried to talk to me about it. My next four years of school, high school, were miserable in math and my grades reflected it. I remembered how much I love math so when I got to college, I swore I would never not understand math again. I went to the math tutor after every class and made sure I understood every question and every problem… I ended up teaching my college calculus class that had a professor that loved the application and theory around calculus but was poor at explaining how to actually crunch the numbers… I could crunch the numbers and I was very good at explaining it to people. While I was in college, I became a math tutor at an Alternative high school next to my college. Teaching little thugs and gang bangers how to love math was one of the highlights of my life…And I’ve had a lot of really cool highlights;) I passed that love onto my daughter who is 14 and is always top of the class in math… I couldn’t be more proud of her. Math is amazing. Math is for everyone. You just need the right teacher.

About the lesson

I do the problems step by step using a traditional mathematic process. Then the child tells me each step when I do the same problem, again. That repeated until the child can do the problem on their own. We then explore different variations of the problem type and repeat the process.
