About Leonor
I am a college freshman and nursing major with a strong academic background in chemistry and biology and a genuine passion for helping students succeed. I earned an A+ in General Chemistry (Chem 101) at the college level and received a 4 on the AP Biology exam, demonstrating both subject mastery and consistency in high-level science coursework. I also completed Honors Chemistry in high school with an A, giving me a strong understanding of the expectations and challenges students face in rigorous science classes. As a tutor, I maintain a professional, supportive, and organized learning environment. I come prepared for each session, tailor lessons to the student’s specific class and learning style, and focus on clear explanations rather than memorization. I emphasize strong study habits, problem-solving strategies, and concept mastery so students feel confident applying what they learn independently. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students who may feel discouraged or overwhelmed. Although I performed at a high academic level, I understand what it is like to struggle with concepts at first. This perspective allows me to explain material patiently, adapt my teaching approach, and reassure students that improvement is achievable with the right support. I work with middle school and high school students in chemistry and biology, including honors and AP-level courses, as well as college freshmen seeking support in introductory science classes. My approach as a tutor is centered on patience, clarity, and understanding that every student learns at a different pace. I focus on breaking down complex Chemistry and Biology concepts into simple, manageable steps, using real-life examples and visuals to help students truly understand the material rather than memorize it. I encourage questions and create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and asking for clarification.
A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to see what the student is currently learning and where they feel confused. We then review key concepts together, followed by guided practice problems or questions similar to what they see in class. I gradually shift toward independent practice so students can build confidence, and we end each session with a brief recap and a plan for what to focus on before our next meeting.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to relate to students who may feel overwhelmed or discouraged. Even though I achieved strong academic results, including an A+ in chemistry and a 4 on the AP Biology exam, I did not always understand concepts right away. This allows me to explain topics in a way that makes sense to students who struggle initially and need concepts explained more than once or in different ways.
My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students taking chemistry or biology, including honors and AP-level courses, as well as college freshmen who need extra support in introductory chemistry or biology classes. I especially enjoy working with students who want to build confidence, strengthen their study skills, and develop a deeper understanding of science.
