About Dru
I hold dual Master's degrees in Adolescent Developmental Counseling and Teaching English, and I've spent years helping students find their voice on the page. I know what admissions readers are looking for, what gets skimmed, and what makes a reader stop and pay attention.
My approach is direct, encouraging, and focused on getting your best thinking out of your head and onto the page — without the overwhelm.
Who this is for:
Rising seniors heading into application season, juniors who want a head start, transfer applicants, and grad school candidates working on personal statements. If you're staring at a blank doc and the deadline is closer than you'd like, this is for you.

The college essay is the one part of your application where you actually get to sound like a person, not a transcript. Done well, it's the difference between getting read and getting remembered. Done poorly, it sounds like every other essay in the pile — and admissions readers can spot a generic essay in the first two sentences.
I coach rising seniors through the full essay process: Common App personal statement, supplemental essays, "Why Us" and "Why Major" responses, and the short-answer questions most students rush through and shouldn't. Whether you're starting early in the summer or scrambling in October, we'll build a strategy that fits your timeline and your list.
What we work on:
- Finding the story only you can tell — not the one you think they want to hear
- Brainstorming and topic selection (the make-or-break step most students skip)
- Structure, voice, and pacing that keeps a reader engaged
- Supplemental strategy across multiple schools without sounding repetitive
- Tightening prose so every sentence earns its place
- Avoiding the clichés admissions officers are tired of reading
- Aligning your essays with the rest of your application so the whole thing tells one coherent story
This is coaching, not ghostwriting. The essay stays yours — I help you figure out what you're really trying to say and how to say it in a way that resonates.
