About Luke
I am a Cognitive Studies MA student, and hobbyist programmer and game developer. Teaching at tech summer camps in 2018 and 2019 I have delivered week long courses to classes of 1-8 students across an age range of 9-18 years. These courses were in python programming, video game design, and general tech skills. I am a self taught programmer of 5 years and have worked on multiple personal video game related projects. More recently, I have gained further programming experience through university assignments on natural language processing, involving the use of statistical methods and neural networks.

My teaching is practically focused. Initially, I provide a brief explanation and demonstration of each new concept or skill to be learned. Then I get my students to familiarise themselves with it, and explore it, through the completion of practical tasks. As their skills develop I encourage my students to guide their own learning more by choosing small projects to work on. This keeps them engaged, helps them consolidate what they have learned, and drives them towards the acquisition of further skills and greater understanding.
