About Alex

Greetings Karate-Ka of all stages. My name is Alex. I have been training in Shotokan Karate for over 20 years. I started because I was bullied a lot as a child. I needed confidence, I needed someone who believed in me and I certainly wasn't getting that anywhere else. I tried everything until an advert for Karate classes appeared in the local paper. The practice has given me the inner strength and resolve to face many challenges. I achieved fourth-dan last year. I have taught classes for over ten years to hundreds of students. Each grade range gives a new challenge, whether it's the fundamental understanding at the bottom of the mountain path or the intricacies further up the route. I get great pleasure from seeing students progress and improve, it is my motivation. I still believe that focus, dedication and hard work are the foundations of making the most of Karate, you get out what you put in. My hope is that each session is entered into with an open mind, ready to receive another's approach. I will listen to your concerns as a student and be there to offer any advice that I can. I want to help you overcome those challenges that may seem insurmountable.

About the lesson

During our sessions, you can expect a considered approach to martial arts training. We will cover many aspects, including warm-ups, drills, exercises, combinations, and short-form meditation. These aspects are all drawn from my over 20-year career. By having a well-rounded knowledge of what Karate is and the deeper understanding of its principles and applications is crucial to you having the empowerment to face any situation or challenge in front of you. I intend to help you achieve this using my collected knowledge and experience. We can go through your grading syllabus with you in its entirety and give you that extra time that you might want to have before going into an examination. Sessions typically run for one hour, but if you wish to do more, we can cover other areas in more detail in a longer session. I have experience teaching all age ranges, the youngest being four, the eldest being over 70. This gives me great insight in how to teach in a manner that will appeal to all. I can be available to coach at your house, at my home dojo or online.

Perfect! Alex is a very professional karate instructor who clearly has immense knowledge of his sport. He immediately put my 2 children at ease and was able to judge their level and push them to succeed. He has a super positive attitude to teaching children and although he corrected them when needed, he did it in such a way that made them both feel that they were doing brilliantly. They had quite a workout and achieved more than I thought they would in the time.
