Clement believes that students respond well to patterns and regularity, so when teaching English he aims to ensure that they acquire a sound basic knowledge (of theory, grammar or vocabulary) at the outset. At a more advanced level, he helps students refine their English prose by encouraging them to read texts from newspapers and books, in order to understand how the language operates at a native level. He believes a happy student learns more effectively. He or she needs to be challenged, but also to feel progress is being made by working in an environment that is productive without being unnecessarily severe.
