About Benjamin
Philippine-American pianist and scholar Benjamin Crowder started playing the piano in 2012. He progressed as a pianist quickly and earned multiple recognitions with superiors in the NFMC Northeast-Florida in solo, collaborative, and theory - even placing third place in his category in 2016.
An awardee of the Duckwitz Talent Scholarship, Crowder earned his Bachelor of Music from Stetson University in 2019 under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Rickman (Northwestern) and Dr. Sean Kennard (Yale/Julliard). He performed extensively as a collaborative pianist with the Stetson Symphonic Band and Concert Band, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Xi Nu Chapter, and Choral Union. He also premiered works by student composers and Sydney Hodkinson’s (1934 2021) Mosaic in Silver (2017) with a selected group of musicians. Crowder went on to study with Dr. Dena Kay Jones at the University of Texas in El Paso where he was also a teaching assistant for courses in piano and musicology. During his time he performed with the UTEP Symphonic Band, UTEP Wind Ensemble, and El Paso Winds. Crowder was also in the premiere and recording of Jack Stamp’s I Bow My Head in Disbelief in (2015/2021).
Crowder has performed extensively in Florida, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington D.C., Italy, and with FIMTE, as a soloist and collaborative pianist. He has presented research on nationalistic piano works of the 20th century from the music of Lucrecia Kasilag, Francisco Buencamino, and Alberto Ginastera. In 2022 he presented a thesis recital “Ang Larawan: A Portrait of Piano Music from the Philippines” which premiered piano works by Filipino composers in the 20th century and provided discussion on the impacts of politicized nationalism and indigenous revival.
Crowder currently teaches piano and voice lessons online and in person in NE Florida. He is working on the HARANA Collective - a project that strives to include representation of piano works by Philippine composers through pedagogy, performance, and reconstruction. During his free time Crowder enjoys plane spotting, cooking dishes, and is an avid Genshin Impact player.

Hello, my name is Benjamin, but you can call me Ben for short!
I have been playing the piano for 14 years and entered entered university as a pianist after play the piano for five years.
I focus heavily on technique and musicality by implementing pedagogies from Europe and understanding of the physiology of the body. You will learn a lot about how the body works when playing the piano, but in a fun way!
I specialize in classical music, specifically of Latin America and the Philippines, but I also love teaching the music of Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Haydn, and many other composers from the Western canon.
I am very flexible and will work with you to achieve the goals you want, whether it is Day 1 or you have a degree - nothing is impossible!
I can teach in English and Tagalog.
