About Carla (ArtDip,OperaDip,BMus)

I am Canadian, living and teaching from home in West London or online. I taught voice at the University of Western Ontario and coached at Universities of Toronto, British Columbia and Montreal, and the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), as well as at Tapestry New Opera, Soundstreams Canada and the Canadian Music Centre. Some of my students have gone on to perform at major opera houses, theatre festivals and professional choirs, while some have gained the confidence to sing a solo at their local church or community event. Some have completed their ABRSM or Trinity exams, or auditioned for conservatoire/university, which I help prepare them for. Seeing my students shine (both on stage and off) fills me with humble pride and fulfilment. We will strive to find the authentic version of your voice, which is important in ANY style of music we sing. You want to sound like YOU, right? This is how an audience connects with you, with music, and what you're trying to communicate. It's the secret behind successful singing and I know the way to get you there.

About the lesson

-LESSONS ARE 1 HOUR LONG. FOR A TRIAL LESSON, I OFFER A HALF PRICE DISCOUNT. PLEASE BOOK A 60 MINUTE LESSON, AS 30 MINUTES IS NOT ENOUGH TO ASSESS YOUR NEEDS/LEVEL OR MAKE MUCH PROGRESS. THANKS! -Learn how to breathe efficiently, ease vocal cord tension, and discover resonant, healthy, singing! -What are you trying to express? Coaching in communication, acting, clarity of ideas and how to convey them believably. -Musicality and singing in tune can be learned! It's not about "natural talent". -Language coaching: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Nordic languages. Lessons taught in English, Italian or French. - I am positive, enthusiastic and want to help you sound and feel your best. It's about process - helping you find your way to improve your confidence, musical skills, and enjoyment. -Art.Dip., Opera Dip., BMus, all Voice (Honours).

Carla is a very experienced singer who specializes in opera, modern classical and musical theatre, with an extra facility in languages (she is multi lingual). I worked with her as a recent opera graduate from a Canadian conservatory more than 20 years ago in a production at La Fenice/ Venice, and have been enthusiastically recommending her ever since. She has a particular interest in dramaturgy, so is an excellent coach for students who want to explore the text while learning a role. Her vocal technique is flawless in my opinion (she is a lyric coloratura), so has many things to teach fledgling singers, all of which should add up to creating well-rounded professionals who can act. Temperament-wise, she is intelligent, calm, warm and funny, which is exactly the sort of teaching that brings out the best in people.
