Began playing piano/organ for churches at age 11. Have been a Professor of English for 20 years and have
working with teen students for 40 years. Several of my students have become college professors themselves and are now novelists in their own right.

Begin where the student is and take them forward. Personal disciplined practice makes for the best results in music. Only take a student forward as fast as is comfortable for them. Some can take 6 new songs a week - others only 2 or 3.
