About Layla
My interest in chess began with a deep fascination for strategy and problem solving. This led me to complete a PhD in Cognitive Science, where I studied thinking patterns and decision-making processes. Over the past 11 years, I have helped students learn chess in a structured and simple way that builds confidence and strong analytical skills.
I believe chess should be taught with clarity, patience, and consistent practice. My teaching approach focuses on explaining strategies step by step and encouraging students to think independently. I guide learners to analyze their games and learn from mistakes so they can improve steadily.
Outside teaching, I enjoy playing competitive chess and studying advanced strategies. This helps me keep my lessons updated and effective. Teaching chess is very meaningful to me because I see students grow from beginners to confident players. Helping them develop strong thinking skills, focus, and confidence is one of the most fulfilling parts of my teaching journey.

Chess becomes more interesting when students understand the ideas behind each move instead of memorizing patterns. In my lessons, I focus on piece movement, opening principles, middle game strategies, tactical patterns, and endgame techniques using simple and clear explanations. I break down each concept into smaller steps so students can follow comfortably without confusion. I also include puzzles, guided practice games, and real-game analysis to make lessons more engaging and effective. Each session is interactive and supportive, allowing students to think independently while learning in a calm and focused environment.
As students progress, lessons are adjusted based on their level and understanding. Beginners focus on rules, piece coordination, and simple strategies. Intermediate learners work on tactics, planning, and recognizing patterns. Advanced students focus on deep strategy, positional understanding, and competitive play. I provide regular practice sessions, game reviews, and detailed feedback to ensure steady improvement and strong strategic understanding.
Chess helps students develop logical thinking, patience, concentration, and decision-making skills. As they improve, they become more confident in analyzing positions and planning moves carefully. These skills are useful not only in the game but also in academics and real-life situations. My goal is to make chess simple, engaging, and intellectually rewarding so students feel confident in their ability to think strategically and play independently with clarity and confidence.
