About Mert

43 years old chess coach from Turkey. Represented Turkey in Chess Olympiads: (2000-20(concealed information)-2010)
European Team Championship : (20(concealed information)-2009)
GrandMaster since 2017.
I started to play chess at a very late age ( for today's standarts) of 15. Altough the knowledge was not as spread as it is nowadays, I was able to improve pretty quickly to 2300 level which, at that time, was good enough to reach the national team. But the further improvement did take me quite a long time I must admit. No matter how much I was reading I was not able to use the knowledge that i was getting from the books .The year 2006 changed many things. For the first ime in my life i had a long term trainer ( not a weekly camps forthe national team) . GM Grivas made me realise and appreciate the importance of chess trainer. He was able to clear the fog of knowledge that I got from the books and things started to make more sense. Thanks to his training I was able to perform my GM norms .
As a trainer this became my main motivation. To be able to explain things as clear as possible. I try to avoid every word that kept me from understanding the nuances of chess strategy. I am explaining things as clear as possible and I can assure you that any given strategy will be understood by you and you will be satisfied by the improvement of your chess understanding.

About the lesson

I have been the coach of many national youngsters during my career and I helped more than 10 kids to achieve the title of Turkish Champion in their age groups.
Due to my relationship with Fide I did coach national teams during the last 3 Olympiads and my teams did perform much better then their rating average . During the Olympiad 2018 my team ,El Salvador women team, did achieve the gold medal at their category.
