About Tharusha

My name is Tharusha, and I began my chess journey when I was in Grade 2. What started as a childhood interest soon grew into a lifelong passion, leading me to represent Sri Lanka at both national and international levels. One of the most memorable milestones in my career came in 2013, when I became the Asian Chess Champion, creating a Sri Lankan record by winning: Champion – Standard Event Champion – Blitz Event 1st Runner-up – Rapid Event I am an international FIDE-rated player in Classical, Rapid, and Blitz chess, reflecting my competitive experience across all formats. Throughout my chess career, I have proudly represented Sri Lanka in both the Asian Chess Championships and the World Chess Championships. I have also been a member of the Sri Lanka National Women's Chess Team, National Youth Team, and have earned the title of National School Chess Champion. Leadership has always been an important part of my journey. I had the privilege of serving as the Captain of the Southlands College Chess Team and later as the Captain of the SLIIT Women's Chess Team, inspiring and guiding teammates while competing at the highest levels. My achievements have been recognized through several prestigious honours, including: Best Player – University (2019–2021) National Colours Provincial Colours SLIIT Colours School Colours Representing my country has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Every tournament has strengthened my determination, discipline, and love for the game. Chess has shaped not only my career but also my character, teaching me resilience, strategic thinking, leadership, and perseverance. Today, I continue to share my passion for chess while striving to inspire the next generation of players and contribute to the growth of the sport both in Sri Lanka and internationally.

About the lesson

I have been conducting chess classes for absolute beginners for more than a year and classes are more suitable for students of age 4-15 years.
No prior knowledge is required.
Friendly and interactive sessions.
Classes will be conducted in English.
