About George
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy coaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where I currently hold the rank of brown belt. Coaching has further developed my ability to explain complex skills in a clear, patient and encouraging way, helping people progress at their own pace, an approach that naturally carries over into my tutoring.
I’m also passionate about dog training, which has taught me the value of consistency, clear communication and adapting to different learning styles. Whether I’m working with students, athletes or dogs, I enjoy understanding how individuals learn best and helping them build confidence through positive, structured guidance.
When I’m not tutoring or coaching, you’ll usually find me on the mats or out walking with my dog.

I believe that lasting success in maths and science comes from developing a genuine understanding of the core principles behind each topic, rather than simply memorising methods or mark schemes. Once these foundations are secure, more challenging concepts become far more intuitive and students gain the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently. Throughout my PhD in Chemistry, I found that whenever an experiment didn’t behave as expected, the solution almost always came from returning to the underlying principles, a mindset that now underpins my approach to tutoring.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. My teaching style is conversational and interactive, allowing me to identify the specific points where understanding has broken down and explain concepts in a way that makes sense to that student. I believe the best learning happens through discussion, where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas without worrying about getting things wrong. No two learners are the same, so I adapt my explanations, pace and teaching style to suit each individual’s needs.
A typical lesson is centred around a specific topic. I begin by introducing and explaining the key concepts before we work through questions together, discussing both the reasoning and the methods involved. As the student’s confidence grows, I encourage them to take increasing ownership of the problem-solving process, helping them develop the independence and resilience needed to tackle unfamiliar questions in exams.
Having worked extensively with students with ADHD and autism, I understand that effective learning looks different for everyone. I create a supportive, structured environment where students feel understood and are encouraged to learn in a way that suits them. Whether that means breaking concepts into smaller steps, adapting the pace of the lesson, or approaching a topic from a different angle, my goal is always to help each student build confidence alongside their understanding.
Ultimately, my aim is not only to help students achieve excellent exam results, but also to leave them with a genuine understanding of the subject, greater confidence in their own abilities, and the skills to approach new challenges with curiosity and independence

George started tutoring my son in Chemistry after a really really poor end of Y10 assessment result. He’d missed so much due to lockdown and had a complete lack of motivation and had massive gaps in his knowledge.
He then got an 8 in his GCSE Chemistry and has just sat Chemistry A level this summer - that says it all really!
George has been such a huge support and a brilliant tutor. Very clear and enormous in-depth knowledge of all topics, he explained everything in very relatable terms. He is flexible, approachable, patient and has been inspirational for my son. Great communication and huge help doing lots of past papers in the run up to exams.
Thanks so much George for everything!George was recommended to me by a friend and right from the start my son engaged with his tutor sessions . They were targeted at his ability and made enjoyable that my son never wanted to miss a session I see that as the work of a very understanding successful tutor .
