About Emery
My academic journey in chemistry began with a fascination for how invisible particles create visible changes in the world around us. This curiosity led me to complete a B.Sc in Chemical Sciences, where I developed a strong understanding of both theoretical principles and practical chemical reasoning. Over the past 12 years, I have taught students at various academic levels, guiding them through challenges with patience, structure, and clarity.
I believe effective chemistry teaching requires empathy and adaptability. Every student has a different pace and learning style, so I tailor explanations, examples, and practice methods accordingly. I focus on building confidence through understanding, helping learners feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. My teaching environment is calm and supportive, encouraging curiosity and steady improvement.
Outside teaching, I stay engaged with chemistry through continuous learning, academic reading, and conceptual exploration. This helps me keep lessons accurate, relevant, and thoughtfully structured. Teaching chemistry is deeply fulfilling because I witness students transform uncertainty into confidence. Supporting learners as they discover their ability to understand complex systems remains one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Chemistry lessons are designed to help students clearly understand how matter behaves, reacts, and transforms rather than simply memorising formulas or reaction steps. I begin by strengthening foundational ideas such as atomic structure, periodic trends, bonding, and molecular interactions so learners can logically connect advanced topics later. Each concept is introduced slowly, using real-life analogies, diagrams, and stepwise reasoning that makes abstract ideas easier to visualise and remember. Students are encouraged to ask questions freely, helping them replace confusion with clarity.
As lessons progress, students develop confidence in stoichiometry, chemical equations, reaction mechanisms, acids and bases, and equilibrium concepts. I focus on problem-solving accuracy by teaching students how to approach calculations systematically, analyse units carefully, and interpret chemical data logically. Practice problems are integrated into every session, with detailed explanations provided for both correct and incorrect approaches. This ensures students understand not just the final answer, but the reasoning behind each step.
Chemistry learning also builds patience, precision, and scientific thinking. Students gradually become more confident handling complex problems and interpreting chemical behaviour independently. Many learners find their fear of chemistry replaced with curiosity and interest. My goal is to help students feel capable, organised, and confident while developing a strong foundation that supports future academic and professional success.
