When teaching students, I like to explain the concept of a topic so that the student fully understands the idea rather than just memorising an answer for a exam. I found this technique to be effective in my own studies, as I found it much easier to answer questions in exams that were asking to apply a idea rather than regurgitate a textbook answer.
