About Emma
Hello there!
I am a Cum Laude (3.64 GPA) graduate of Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. I also minored in Japanese and Film Studies, which informs my approach to language teaching. I have worked with adult refugees and immigrants developing advanced workplace English skills, worked with exchange students from across Asia to prepare them for regular college classes, and developed instructional materials for English Language Learners of all ages from children to seniors.
My teaching has been described as warm and fun. I am a strong believer in using visuals to help inform meaning and deepen understanding, regardless of age group. It is my goal to create a stress-free learning environment where we can work together to achieve your language goals.

I primarily work with adult English Language Learners, but am comfortable working with younger students as well. CEFR levels A1 - C2 welcome.
To help you achieve your language goals, my lessons involve a balance of discussion, strategy, and practice. Discussions are the natural way language is acquired as two people negotiate meaning and try to understand each other. Strategies include grammar, vocabulary, and other concepts that deepen understanding. Practice is where we bring it all together using scenarios that are authentic to your life to help you feel prepared for real-world situations.
