About Dalia

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a school teacher. I was born in Peru, so I am a Spanish speaker. I came to the United States as an English Learner, so I know what it feels like to be that ESL student growing up and not always understanding English or what I have just read. It took a lot of time and practice! Looking back, I wish I had a tutor that would have been able to help me! I have taught over 15 years as a classroom school teacher teaching multiple subjects. I taught grades 1, 2, 4, and 5 of various backgrounds, including English speakers, and special needs in my entire career. I was also a Personalized Learning Teacher of TK through 8th grade students, making sure homeschooling students were learning, reteaching concepts, if necessary, and making sure their work was completed. I have also tutored many of my students over the years, in English Language Arts (reading, phonics, fluency, comprehension, etc.), math, writing, science, and history/social studies. I am also a holistic health practitioner/nutrition and health coach, so if an older student or adult wants to learn and be healthier version of themselves, I can also be of help in that department! I also grew up playing sports and as an athlete, so I love movement and fitness in general. I truly enjoy working with kids and students of all ages and backgrounds. I live for those lightbulb moments! Plus, my heart is in serving and helping in any way I can.

About the lesson

As a teacher, I believe that all students are capable of learning and always improving. It is a matter of figuring out where each student is at, what their prior knowledge is, and what they need to learn. I always take into consideration, the student strengths and challenges, learning environment, and resources available. My teaching strategies depend on the student's needs, how each one learns best, before deciding how to approach my teaching/tutoring skills. I also believe that each student needs to also know the whys. I am able to tutor students of grades K through 6th grades of all subject areas: English/Language Arts, Math, Science, History/Social Studies, or health and wellness. I have been trained in: Write from the Beginning and Beyond, Phonics Workshop, Readers Workshop, SDAIE strategies, CGI strategies, among others...

Before beginning a session, I always like to talk to the parent about the student, so I can figure out how to approach my tutoring sessions. A copy of curriculum, or student homework may be requested, as needed.

I am able to teach in-person (if you are local) or online, over Zoom.
