About Julie

My name is Julie. I am 35 and I LOVE children and animals. I live in Molino, Florida with my husband, our dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, geese, and even a pet skunk (I have a class III permit—she is legal and she cannot spray). My favorite hobbies are snorkeling at the beach, listening to music, reading, and hanging out outside with my fluffy silkie chickens. I chose to be a teacher because of how much I love children. I have been a teacher for 8 years. I have taught kindergarten for 7 years and first grade for 1 year. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing that "aha!" moment from a child that didn't understand something, but they are so excited to understand it now. I loved kindergarten the most because most kids came to me not knowing any letters, but left me reading complete sentences, and that was so rewarding knowing that I helped do that! I took a year off from teaching this year to be with my family. My dad has been diagnosed with cancer, and my nana isn't doing well. Tutoring online is more flexible with our schedule, so I can be where I need to be, but still allows me to do what I love to do, and I'm so thankful for that!

Hello! My name is Julie. I graduated from the University of West Florida in May of 2017. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education as well as a minor in Exceptional Student Education. I’m certified to teach Pre-Kindergarten through third grade, Exceptional Student Education and I am endorsed in both reading and ESL/ESOL. I have taught for eight amazing years at three local elementary schools. I am fortunate to have worked with so many incredible educators in the last 12 years (8 as a teacher, four as a Teacher’s Assistant) who have helped me find myself as an educator. Even now, I’m still learning and I always will be. I am a lifelong learner. I have always been an example to my students that hard work and perseverance pays off. Just as I push myself, I have always pushed my students to reach their maximum potential academically and personally, and I realize that everyone’s maximum potential looks different, and that is okay. My passion has been working in a diverse setting of general education students and students with special needs. I have thrived off of promoting inclusiveness, kindness, and positive thinking for all of my students. I absolutely loved kindergarten because I love being one of the first educational experiences for children. I feel that I make learning fun, engaging, and personable for all children through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means. I have also taught first grade as well—which I also enjoyed because I loved teaching word families, spelling patterns, and phonetics. I also love teaching the beginning math concepts. I love seeing the growth from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. I also feel that by me laying the foundation for reading readiness it will allow students to move on from my classroom and make them eager to learn more in the future. My goal as a teacher is to provide a fun, engaging, hands-on educational experience for all of my students. I believe that every child is unique and special. I want to make each and every one of my students feel appreciated and valued as individuals and encourage them to reach their full potential educationally and personally. I also want to help prepare them for life as an adult because before we know it they will have graduated from high school and be ready to move on in the world. I know without a doubt that I am an amazing teacher, but I know that there is always room for improvement and I will always strive to learn as much as I can to become even better. Throughout my years in the district I have met many unique children with their own set of challenges. I have taught children that were developmentally delayed, autistic, or diagnosed with various types of learning disabilities such as dyslexia. I have also taught students living in poverty and students that were in the foster care system. All of the students that I have come in contact with throughout the years have grown exponentially. I believe it is because I am able to give these students a safe, loving, nurturing environment conducive for growth. I have a wonderful rapport with all students and their families. My students and their families all know that I care about them. I want to get to know my students and their families and I want them to get to know me as well. I believe that the most important piece to student growth is feeling loved, supported, and inspired by their teacher. I specialize in teaching reading to young children Pre-K through 2nd grade. I use various styles of teaching depending on what works best for your child—which we will discuss at our first meeting together. I have many different teaching tools up my sleeves. There is no one style fits all for every child. My schedule is pretty open, so I am great for students that are homeschooled because I am available during school hours. What sets me apart from most tutors is that I LISTEN. If a child tells me that they don't understand, or that something isn't working—we are going to try something new until it works.
