In order to teach, I first must figure out what you know. Assuming that students have prior knowledge on topics can result in weeks of confusion when the misunderstandings stem from basic concepts that we are not yet working on. It is essential to know the starting point and build from there. You cannot build on a spot without a solid foundation.
