About Devon
I bring 15 years of classroom teaching experience, 30 years of coaching, and 10 years on staff with Young Life to every tutoring session. That combination is rare. Most tutors can teach content — I teach people.
Having stood at the front of a classroom, the sideline of a basketball court, and in the middle of a student's everyday life, I understand that every student is also an athlete in life, constantly developing, growing, and needing the right coach at the right moment.
Those 10 years on Young Life staff were not just ministry work — they were advanced training in understanding young people at a deeper level. I learned how to earn trust, meet students in hard seasons, and speak into their lives in a way that actually lands. That skill comes into every session I lead.
In the classroom, I have taught World History, U.S. History, AP Government, AP Geography, and Geography, as well as High School 101 — a course designed to help students successfully navigate the transition into high school life. I also work with students on social skills, because confidence, communication, and real-world readiness matter just as much as any exam score.

I meet students where they are. Whether a student is struggling to grasp the basics or pushing toward AP-level mastery, I adapt my style to fit their learning needs. I use a combination of:
Storytelling to make history memorable and relevant
Real-world connections to bring government and geography to life
Socratic questioning to develop critical thinking, not just memorization
Visual aids, timelines, and maps for visual learners
Discussion-based learning to build confidence and communication skills
