About Travis
I’m a certified high school English teacher and former curriculum lead at KIPP Houston High School, a Title I campus. Due to my students' consistent excellence, I was contracted by the national KIPP network to design SAT and ACT assessments used across the country. My students led the network in ACT English and Reading performance and growth four years in a row. I also specialize in helping students craft college essays that tell their unique story and stand out to admissions officers. With over a decade of experience, I bring a diverse set of instructional strategies and a results-driven mindset—no fluff, no one-size-fits-all lessons, and no repeating what doesn’t lead to growth.

We begin with a diagnostic (using official SAT/ACT materials) to assess strengths in reading, grammar, and reasoning—and to identify specific skill gaps so we can target instruction from day one. Throughout our sessions, we’ll revisit diagnostics regularly to chart your progress across key domains and skill categories, tracking exactly where you’re improving and where we need to focus next. Instruction is always personalized and aligned to your goals. Lessons are direct, adaptive, and designed to build mastery through strategic practice. If something’s not working, we adjust. The goal is always clear: measurable skill growth and real score gains—so when you sit down on test day, you can take a deep breath and say with full assurance, “I got this.”

Travis is an exceptional educator whose dedication to his students’ success is truly remarkable. Seven years ago, as my high school professor, he played a pivotal role in shaping my academic trajectory. His guidance was instrumental in preparing me for a collegiate education in STEM by enhancing my writing skills and professional communication. Travis placed significant emphasis on the proper use of syntax, diction, and grammar, which greatly increased my confidence and ability to articulate my knowledge effectively to others.
These skills have proven invaluable in my career as an engineer, where clear and precise communication is essential when collaborating with colleagues and presenting to superiors. Furthermore, under Travis’s mentorship, my ACT English and Writing score improved significantly, rising from a 20 to a 26. His commitment to fostering academic excellence has had a lasting impact on my professional and personal growth.I had the privilege of working with Mr. Travis Koutsoubos as I prepared for the ACT, and I can honestly say that his guidance made all the difference—not just in my test scores, but in how I approached writing from that point forward.
Mr. Koutsoubos didn’t just help me master the structure and strategy behind the English and Reading portions of the ACT; he helped me understand how to write and read with clarity, confidence, and purpose. What stood out most was how he believed in my potential before I fully believed in it myself. Through his feedback, encouragement, and practical advice, I began to feel more confident not only in test prep, but in my ability to succeed in college-level writing.
That foundation paid off in my college classes, where I felt prepared and capable when it came to research papers, analytical essays, and professional communication. Even now, in the workforce, I still rely on the writing skills and mindset I developed under Mr. Koutsoubos’s guidance. Writing emails, reports, and professional documents comes more naturally because of the habits and confidence I built in his classroom.
Mr. Koutsoubos is more than an English teacher—he’s a mentor who truly cares about his students’ success long after they leave the classroom. I’m incredibly grateful for his impact on my academic and professional journey.
