In teaching reading and comprehension I teach novel study and vocabulary. Typically I introduce vocabulary and then read stories along with the student. We answer questions based on the story then make connections in writing pieces.
For writing pieces I review the differences between informational writing, persuasive writing, and narrative writing. We discuss paragraphs and topic sentences as well as building on sentences with key details from the story.
